Tarentum Today

This is for the people that haven't been back to Tarentum for awhile and wonder what it looks like today. Some places are gone some have changed, like Henrys, gone, but you still will visualize where the places used to be and how it was. Good old Tarentum. When I meet people they ask where I’m from, I tell them Tarentum but I now live in Natrona Hgts. Another question I get asked a lot these days are why in the hell did you get on the school board? Well the number one reason among many others is there was rumors that the past board wanted to tear down my Alma Mater. Me said over my dead body. I am working on pictures from the past also. That will be the next project. So if any of you can contribute with some kind words and some pictures I would really appreciate it. Oh. I was talking to old dog Tim Christy and he is going to hook me up with some pre-60’s year books Remember to enlarge the picture, most will if you click on that pic. Thanks and enjoy

Lock St. looking towards river

Old boat landing on Lock St.

New boat landing

Comments:
Hey Shake,
The old boat landing is on Wood street not lock

My Grandma lived at the bottom of the hill across the tracks above the drug store (On the right). The drug store was on the first floor, second floor was where my grandma lived. Mrs Walker lived on the third floor. Behind the building was a gas station. There were apartments across the street and a office building on the corner that I worked at during the summer. I used to walk to grams on my lunch hour from school. Sure brings back memories.

By the way gas cost 25 cents a gallon back then.. :)

There was a furniture store and paint store on 4th Avenue on the right side of lock. The Police/borough building on left of lock. A family had a parrot accross from the police station. It would talk all the time! On 4th there was a grocery store and DiGirolomo's fruit market. I loved getting fruit there, especially indian apples. It was kinda behind the Manos movie theatre. Also on 4th and Corbet was a men's clothing store called Berkeys. On Corbet there was another clothing store near Isaly's for women and kids. Lyd
